Leadership succession advisory
A facilitated path for owners and heirs to design roles, test readiness, and set a timeline the family can honour.
Who this is for
Family-owned businesses where the founder or current managing owner is preparing to step back — or where siblings and cousins must decide who will lead. Typical clients employ between fifteen and two hundred people, hold significant family wealth in the firm, and want continuity without forcing an heir into a role they cannot carry.
What you receive
- Private readiness conversations with each candidate and the outgoing leader
- A mapped picture of the decisions the current leader actually makes week to week
- Facilitated family sessions with agendas, ground rules, and written outcomes
- A succession roadmap covering roles, timeline, trial periods, and review criteria
- Coordination notes for your solicitor and accountant (legal drafting stays with them)
What is excluded
We do not write share sale agreements, provide tax structuring, or sit as directors. We do not mediate personal marital disputes unless they directly block ownership decisions and all parties agree to the scope in writing.
How the work unfolds
- Mandate — Confirm who holds decision rights and who must be informed.
- Discovery — Individual interviews before group meetings.
- Design — Draft role descriptions and a staged hand-over.
- Family sessions — Negotiate timeline and conditions in a structured room.
- Roadmap — Deliver the written plan and optional retainer for the first year of transition.
Preparation
Bring existing shareholder agreements, any prior succession notes, and a frank list of who already expects the top job. Delay hiring us if one owner wants secret persuasion of the others — we require a transparent mandate.
Next step
Request a conversation and tell us where the family and the firm stand today. The introductory meeting is complimentary.
